White Africa, Weekly. – Organ of the Council of Europeans – Abercrombie, H.R. (ed)
$29.92
A short-lived, highly racist weekly magazine. This issue published 30 January 1948, on the eve of the South African general election that first saw the National Party take power and the beginning of the Apartheid regime. The Council of Europeans sought to see that “Natives, women and children, should only be permitted within Municipal areas in so far and for so long as their presence is deemed by the wants of the White population.” It sought to remove the representation of Indians in the House of Assembly and raise the minimum wage for unskilled labour in order to make it more attractive for Whites and to drive out people of colour. Size: 28 x 22cm, 32 pg. Condition good, rust to the staple bound spine and some chipping and short tears to the wraps. Newsprint paper age-toned and brittle. Top quarter of pg 3-4 has been cut out.
Date Published: 1948
