Boeregeinterneerdes in Portugal tydens die Anglo-Boereoorlog, 1899 – 1902
Laminated boards, numerous black and white photographs. During the Anglo-Boer War, approximately 1,443 Boers (including around 1,000 men and several hundred women and children) were interned in Portugal between 1901 and 1902. Unlike the prisoners of war (POWs) sent to island camps like St. Helena or Bermuda, these individuals were technically refugees who had fled the British advance by crossing the border into Mozambique (then Portuguese East Africa).
