Two volume set of the first English edition of the author’s first voyage. Mendelssohn sites only the Robinson edition. 12 plates present as called for in the directions to the binder. Including the two frontis plates, two folding and a second plate of the giraffe. The dedication to the Duke of Montagu plate is present but not called for. The “Dangerous attack of a tyger” plate is present as a frontis to volume 1 and does not replace the “Female Hottentot” plate on page 50 of volume 2, however she is wearing an apron of fur and beads. A complete set in mis-matched bindings. Volume 1 with a red cloth spine and volume 2 with a brown leather spine. New end papers to volume 2 and the half title text has been cut-out and pasted to a new half title page. Some tide marks to the plates and scattered foxing.
