Some foxing mostly to prelim pages. Original photograph of Layard tipped in as frontis. Newspaper cuttings tipped on to the free end papers and a hand-written letter dated May 31/81 by Bowdler Sharpe is tipped in behind the title page. It appears to be addressed to William Wesley, London, Agency of the Smithsonian Institution. It informs Wesley that Sharpe is making progress in The Birds of South Africa despite pressures of official work. The letter bears the blindstamp of the British Museum and is signed by Sharpe.
