Tale of Squirrel Nutkin – Potter, Beatrix
$785.28
The adventures of a cheeky red squirrel, Nutkin and friends. A small number of first editions were bound in fabric chosen by the author from her grandfather’s calico printing works in Manchester. Only this title and The Tailor of Gloucester were issued in this patterned cloth. The cloth is surprisingly well preserved for a copy with so many defects. There is a new plain cloth spine and the author’s name label to the lower front board and spine is also missing. The book has been recased with new end papers. Three quarters of the original front free end paper remains in tattered condition. There is a previous owner’s name to the half-title page. Missing the final two leaves of text and there are abrasions and chips to a number of pages. Although crisp and square in its current state, this copy has suffered some damage over the years. [84 pages] 1st Edition. Condition: Fair to poor. Binding: De luxe binding. New spine. Some mild edge-wear and some fading to the decorative cloth.
