Albumen print on album card. W E Jelliman owned an inn and store on the road to the Kaga Mountains, 15 miles from Bedford, Eastern Cape. He was murdered by two deserters from the Cape Mounted Rifles in 1850. This photograph was probably about 30 years later but the store still bears Jelliman’s name. Top LH corner fragile due to crease in the board. Faint circular mark on the top of the photograph and board. Foxing and stain marks on the rear of the board. Scratches on the left side of photograph.
