From the author: “The pictures that have been gathered together in this volume are illustrations done at different times for different stories which have appeared in ‘Little Folks’, ‘The Quiver’, etc. Lady Stanly (1855-1926) was an accomplished engraver, illustrator and genre painter. Bookplate and name of previous owner on endpapers. 8 pages of text and 38 beautiful and endearing engravings. The drawings are surrounded by a pale colour border, which gives the impression of a coloured mount. Foxing to prelims. Splitting to end papers. Tissue guard over frontispiece is foxed with an open tear. Edge-wear to extremities with splitting to spine. Boards are slightly grubby with some stains on the rear board. Bright gilt to all edges.
