Text: Italian. A long narrative poem by Dante Alighieri, begun c. 1308 and completed in 1320. Very scarce,complete in 3 volumes. Previous owner, Mrs Harriet Siddons, was a Scottish Actress and Edinburgh notable. Her name is printed on a label which is pasted on the title page of Vol I and III, and on the ‘Paradiso’ page of Vol II. Boards are rubbed, have edge-wear and rounded corners with some rubbing and fading on the spines. Vol III lacks a 2cm piece from the edge of the front board. There is light scattered foxing on a few of the pages in all 3 volumes. Neat repairs with Japanese tissue paper have been made to some of the front and rear prelims on Vol II and III. Repairs to spines of Vol I & III. Long split to front paste-down and fep in Vol I. New edition. Condition: Good+. Binding: Hardcover. Marbled boards with leather spine and corners.
