Probably 19th Century Konbaung dynasty. Covers illustrated with snakes (Nagas) and celestial beings inscribed in Pali, the canonical language of Tipitaka (Theravadu) Buddhism). It uses an ornate Burmese script known as “tamarind seed” and details the rules and rituals of monastic life. 12 Double sided sheets (pages) made from palm leaf and 2 wooden covers. These manuscripts are usually commissioned as a “work of merit” for presentation to a monastry, often when a son is ordained as a monk. Size: 12 leaves and 2 covers. 61 x 14.5cm.
