Text: German. The Desert Herds. These are the only feral herd of horses residing in Africa. Despite the harsh environment in which they live, the horses are generally in good condition, except during times of extreme drought. Significant insight has been gained into their population dynamics and ability to survive in desert conditions. The most likely ancestors of the horses are a mix of riding horses and cavalry horses, many from German breeding programs, released from various farms and camps in the early 20th century, especially during World War I. Beautiful b&w photographs of the horses. 59 Pages. Contents clean and tightly bound. 1st Edition. Condition: Good+. Dust jacket: Good-. Two small closed tears to top edge. Light soiling to front cover. Binding: Hardcover. Small dents in the lower edge.
