Photograph album. Owner’s name E Benade and a date 14.5.52 on the front paste-down with a label ‘Compiled and produced by Hugh’s studio, Cradock’. B&w photographs celebrating the journey of the Post Coach (pulled by mules) from Tarkastad to Cradock in 1952. The handwritten description (in white ink) of events appears to have been taken from a local newspaper ‘Die Afrikaner’. 18 large b&w photographs. Included in the events was a ‘Horse Commando (Perde-kommando) which accompanied the coach to Cradock; Mr Ochse, the mayor, giving a speech in front of the Stadsaal; Voortrekker children following the coach to the Sportgrounds.; High School Choir; Departure of the coach heading to Willomore. Sadly, according to the article, rain dampened a few of the events. Condition: Good. Binding: Hardcover. Maroon boards, grubby marks, bound with a faded gilded cord.
