An articulated silver and ivory construction with two amethysts. Accompanied by a pair of amethyst and silver stud earrings. Housed is a custom made plastic and stainless steel box, lined with black velvet. Excluding the choker the construction is 11.7 x 6.8 x 1.6cm. The box is 20 x 17 x 5cm. Bakker lived in Simonstown with his artist wife Bernadine Biden. From his isolated location Bakker’s work took on non figurative and abstract forms inspired by the ocean and rugged coastline. He is mostly known for his abstract paintings and his relief constructions that often incorporated elements that we see in this piece. Made specially for the previous owner who was a personal friend of the artist. Having been plagued by health issues, Bakker and his aging wife walked into the sea in 1988.
