The Story of the Everard Group

Bonnefoi was a lively trading post on the transport wagon route to Lydenburg. The women consisted of Bertha Everard, her daughters Ruth and Rosamund, and Bertha’s older sister Edith Luise Mary King. Collectively they are known in South African art history as ‘The Everard Group’, and are remembered for their bold, colourful depictions of the Eastern Transvaal landscape. The art of the Everard Group is closely examined, and the history of the women is told through letters between the family members.
