This is the second, revised edition published in the same year as the first. 12mo, 2 vols, 278 pp, with 2pp. ads and 322 pp. As was the habit at this time, this novel was published annontmously while pleading financial distress. Both heroines of the novel point to the “shifting of women’s intellect and barriers against a gentlewoman earning a living.” Contains a preface from the author’s brother Henry Fielding. Book condition: Very good. Slight edge wear and creasing on spine. Sticker on the paste-down end paper for ExLibris D’Alfred Osborne in both volumes. Full calf bindings with marbled end papers and red stain to page edges.
