The “General Botha” was presented to South Africa by T B F Davis, Esq. of Durban in memoriam of his son, Howard who was killed in action in Flanders during the Great War, in order to train boys for the sea, principally for the Mercantile Marine, but also for the Royal Navy and the South African Naval Service. The vessel was formerly known as “H.M.S. Thames”, a third-class cruiser built in Devonport in 1886 as a submarine depot ship. a number of b&w photographs. Foxing throughout. 22 Pages. First Edition.
