With some account of the missionary settlements of the United Brethren, near The Cape of Good Hope

An important work regarding early travel and exploration in Africa. Twelve hand-coloured aquatint plates and four outline panoramas. A large folding map at the start of the book. The routes are highlighted in red and blue. The illustrations to this work are by Latrobe himself, from the various sights he encountered on his journey. Although there is foxing throughout – most of the plates appear bright and clean except for Mossel Bay (between Page 138/139) which has a 1.5cm x 1.5cm brown mark in the centre. Page 383 has an untrimmed corner. 406 Pages. 1st Edition. Condition: Very good for its age. Binding: Hardcover. Leather spine and corners over marbled boards. 5 raised bands. Gilt lettering to spine.
